UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: Q9Z0S1 (Q9Z0S1)
Gene Name:
Bpnt1
Organism: Mus musculus (Mouse)
Function: Phosphatase that converts 3'(2')-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphate (PAP) to AMP and adenosine 3'-phosphate 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) to adenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (APS). Is also able to hydrolyze inositol 1,4-bisphosphate (Ins(1,4)P2) and inositol 1,3,4-trisphosphate (Ins(1,3,4)P3), and is not active on Ins(1)P, Ins(4)P, Ins(3,4)P2, Ins(1,4,5)P3, Ins(1,3,4,5)P4, Ins(1,3,4,5,6)P5 or InsP6 (PubMed:10224133). Probably prevents the toxic accumulation of PAP, a compound which inhibits a variety of proteins, including PAPS-utilizing enzymes such as sulfotransferases, and RNA processing enzymes. Could also play a role in inositol recycling and phosphoinositide metabolism (By similarity)
