Protein Name:
Phosphoethanolamine N-methyltransferase 2
|
UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: Q944H0 (Q944H0)
Gene Name:
NMT2
Organism: Arabidopsis thaliana (Mouse-ear cress)
Function: Catalyzes N-methylation of phosphomonomethylethanolamine and phosphodimethylethanolamine, the two methylation steps required to convert phosphomonoethanolamine to phosphocholine (PubMed:20650897). Unlike NMT1, NMT2 cannot utilize phosphoethanolamine as substrate in vitro (PubMed:20650897). In association with NMT1, involved in the production of phosphatidylcholine in roots, essential for root development (PubMed:30518673). In association with NMT1 produce phosphocholine mainly for leaf growth maintenance (PubMed:35560207) Catalyzes the N-methylation of phosphoethanolamine to phosphomonomethylethanolamine in vitro
