Protein Name: Ras-related protein Rab-40A

UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: Q8WXH6 (Q8WXH6)

Gene Name: RAB40A

Organism: Homo sapiens (Human)

Function: RAB40A small GTPase acts as substrate-recognition component of the ECS(RAB40A) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex which mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins (PubMed:26598620). The Rab40 subfamily belongs to the Rab family that are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, from the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with membranes. Rabs cycle between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form that is able to recruit to membranes different sets of downstream effectors directly responsible for vesicle formation, movement, tethering and fusion (By similarity). As part of the ECS(RAB40A) complex, mediates RHOU 'Lys-48'-linked ubiquitination and degradation, thus inhibiting focal adhesion disassembly during cell migration (PubMed:26598620)
