Protein Name: Protein STRUBBELIG

UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: Q8RWZ1 (Q8RWZ1)

Gene Name: SUB

Organism: Arabidopsis thaliana (Mouse-ear cress)

Function: Regulates the expression of transcription factors that define the cell fates. Acts in a non-cell-autonomous fashion, functions in a radial inside-out signaling process, and mediates cell morphogenesis and cell fate across clonally distinct cell layers in floral primordia, developing ovules, and root meristems. Seems to be required for the regulation of cell shape and the orientation of the mitotic division plane. Involved in root hair specification, in the formation of the outer integument and the shape of organs such as carpels and petals and is necessary for the shape and height of the stem. Non-functional SUB proteins are retained in the endoplasmic reticulum and degraded by endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD). Collaboratively with QKY and POQ, regulates cell growth anisotropy during gynoecium development, thus linking together cell-cell communication and cellular growth (PubMed:24173806). Together with QKY, links RLK-dependent signal transduction and intercellular communication mediated by plasmodesmata (PD) to regulate tissue morphogenesis (PubMed:25256344)
