Protein Name: Small ribosomal subunit protein eS12

UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: P80455 (P80455)

Gene Name: RpS12

Organism: Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly)

Function: Subunit of the 40S ribosomal complex (PubMed:23636399). Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome (By similarity). In wing imaginal disks, might have a role in translation rate, growth and cell competition, probably through regulation of Xrp1 expression (PubMed:31841522). Might have a role in development and longevity (PubMed:31841522)
