Protein Name: Profilin

UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: P25843 (P25843)

Gene Name: chic

Organism: Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly)

Function: Binds to actin and affects the structure of the cytoskeleton (PubMed:1339308). At high concentrations, profilin prevents the polymerization of actin, whereas it enhances it at low concentrations (PubMed:1339308). By binding to PIP2, it may inhibit the formation of IP3 and DG (PubMed:1339308). This profilin is required for intercellular cytoplasm transport during Drosophila oogenesis (PubMed:1339308). Function in neurons is essential for adult survival, and is important for climbing behavior and activity (PubMed:37041188)
