Protein Name:
Cytochrome P450 4A2
|
UniprotKB/SwissProt ID: P20816 (P20816)
Gene Name:
Cyp4a2
Organism: Rattus norvegicus (Rat)
Function: A cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes omega and omega-1 hydroxylation of saturated fatty acids. Exhibits preferential omega versus omega-1 regioselectivity and (R) versus (S) stereoselectivity for hydroxylation of lauric and myristic acids (PubMed:10620324, PubMed:10869363). Has low activity toward palmitic acid (PubMed:10620324). Mechanistically, uses molecular oxygen inserting one oxygen atom into a substrate, and reducing the second into a water molecule, with two electrons provided by NADPH via cytochrome P450 reductase (CPR; NADPH-ferrihemoprotein reductase) (PubMed:10620324, PubMed:10869363)
